Letterfrack is a seaside community surrounded on one side by the 12 Bens and Connemara National Park. On the other side it is bounded by Ballinakill Bay and the Renvyle Peninsula. In every direction spectacular scenery abounds and the landscape is littered with historical references to mans occupation of this coastal region since 5000 B.C.

Today Letterfrack is a vibrant village and owes some of its success to Quakers John and Mary Ellis who brought industry and employment to the region in 1849 in the immediate aftermath of the famine. Kylemore Abbey, today the home of the Benedictine Nuns, was built by Mitchell Henry in 1865. In more recent years Connemara National Park was based in the village with the principal aim of landscape conservation.

The old Christian Brothers School is now a third level college offering degree courses in furniture design, restoration, manufacture and teaching. Today, Letterfrack is a unique centre where culture and heritage meet academia and commerce, where spectacular scenic splendour meets ceol agus craic.
